A clear desktop with a tangle of cables underneath still reads as chaos. The good news: cable management is one of the highest-impact, lowest-effort organizing wins in the house, and you can do all of it without a single hole in the wall.
The core idea: cables should have a path, not a pile
Loose cables sprawl because nothing tells them where to go. Give each one a route — up the leg, along the underside, into a strip — and the mess disappears even though the same number of wires is still there.

A 20-minute routine
- Unplug and detangle everything — you can't route a knot.
- Mount the power strip under the desk with adhesive so no brick sits on the floor.
- Bundle slack with velcro ties, one bundle per device.
- Clip the run along the back edge so cables travel one path to the strip.
- Label both ends of anything you unplug often.
Why velcro, not zip ties
Zip ties look permanent — until you add one device and have to cut the whole bundle apart. Reusable velcro straps let the system flex as your setup changes, which it always does. The same principle runs through good organization tools generally: the best ones adapt instead of locking you in.
