Under-Sink Organization: How to Use the Dead Space Below Your Sink

The cabinet under your sink is the most wasted storage in the house — because the plumbing breaks the shelf. A U-bend runs straight through the middle, so a normal rack does not fit and everything ends up in a pile around it. The fix is to organize around the pipe, in two layers. Here is the method.

Why under-sink space fails

  • The pipe blocks a single flat shelf.
  • Height is wasted — items sit on the floor of the cabinet with empty air above.
  • Moisture makes it the worst place for cardboard or porous materials.

Insight: the problem is never “not enough space.” It is unused vertical space and an awkward pipe.

The two-layer method

Layer Solution Holds
Floor level Freestanding shelf that clears the pipe Cleaners, refills, heavy bottles
Door / wall Adhesive organizer Sponges, brushes, light items

Rule: put weight on the floor-standing shelf and lightweight items on the door. Never hang heavy bottles on adhesive mounts.

Handle the moisture

  • Choose metal or coated surfaces — wipeable, not porous.
  • Prefer a grid or ventilated structure so damp does not get trapped.
  • Avoid cardboard and fabric bins under a sink entirely.

The two products that solve it

  • Floor layer — Decor Multi-Layer Organizer Shelf. Carbon steel (up to 50 kg), adjustable sliding drawers that work around the pipe, grid ventilation, non-slip feet. Available in three sizes to fit the cabinet.
  • Door / wall layer — Decor Under-Sink Adhesive Organizer. Strong adhesive backing, no drilling, ~3 kg limit — ideal for sponges, cloths, and light bottles.

Fit it to your cabinet

Quick reference

  • Organize around the pipe, in two layers.
  • Floor: steel shelf for weight; door: adhesive for light items.
  • Moisture: metal + ventilation, never cardboard.
  • Respect the ~3 kg adhesive limit.
